World Tsunami Awareness Day 2026 – Public lectures and thematic presentations
Museum Cinema Hall, Technical Museum Nikola Tesla
Time
18:00–20:00 (CET)
Background
To mark World Tsunami Awareness Day 2026, ProGEO-Croatia will organize a public awareness event featuring thematic presentations, educational materials and expert lectures at the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla in Zagreb, Croatia, on Friday, 6 November 2026.
The event will aim to raise awareness of tsunami hazards, their potential impacts and the importance of understanding natural processes that can generate destructive tsunami waves.
The programme will include a presentation on tsunami risk, accompanied by an exhibition poster previously featured in the museum's Forces of Nature exhibition, as well as educational videos illustrating tsunamis and their modelling.
The programme will also feature two public lectures in the Museum's cinema hall:
- Tihomir Marjanac: The Forgotten Adriatic Megatsunami – exploring a historical tsunami event in the Adriatic Sea that has received relatively little attention.
- Marina Čalogović: Asteroid Impact-Induced Tsunamis – examining the generation of tsunamis resulting from asteroid impacts.
Participation is free and open to the public.
