Date

World Tsunami Awareness Day, observed annually on 5 November and in 2026 under the theme "Be Tsunami Ready: Resilience Begins with You" promotes a culture of preparedness through public awareness, risk education and individual action. This interactive session at the Asia-Pacific Ocean Week in Bangkok, Thailand will showcase innovative learning approaches developed by UNDRR, UNDP, ESCAP and UNESCO-IOC, including educational games and music. Through live demonstrations and hands-on activities, participants will experience practical approaches that illustrate how experiential learning can make tsunami risk education more engaging, memorable and action-oriented.

The session aims to inspire practitioners to incorporate game-based and other participatory approaches into tsunami preparedness and risk education programmes by sharing practical tools that can be adapted and replicated in diverse contexts.
